Comprehensive Car Insurance Guide

Posted by officefileblog on January 16, 2010

Still the most popular type of motor insurance a Comprehensive Car Insurance policy will deliver a level of cover sufficient for most drivers.

This simple but timely guide will enable our readers to obtain a quick overview of the features and benefits of ‘fully comp’ motor insurance.

Comprehensive cover gives you full risks cover for your car. In simple terms, it means that you can claim for any damage caused to your vehicle by any means, apart from exclusions that can be found in the small print.

In addition to allowing you to claim for the damage caused to your car in an accident, with comprehensive car insurance cover, you can also claim for acts of vandalism, theft, or any other accidental damage to your car which does not involve a crash.

Most UK insurers provide a similar array of policy features and benefits. It is for the individual to shop around and find a policy which delivers the required level of protection at the right value-for-money price.

Voluntary Excess
The higher the excess on your policy (the sum you have to pay from your own pocket in the event of a claim) the lower your premiums are likely to be.

The list below is by no means exhaustive, but it does give an indication of the cover levels you can expect:

  • Up to 80% no-claim discount
  • Breakdown cover
  • Glass cover
  • Road rage cover
  • Online discount for new policies
  • Secure, online applications
  • Temporary replacement car service
  • Cover for up to 200 days in EU countries
  • Legal expenses up to £100,000
  • Personal accident benefit from £10,000 to £100,000

Drivers should make sure they read the small print on their comprehensive car insurance policies, even if they believe they have fully comprehensive cover. People must also make sure that the main driver on the policy is also the vehicle owner or the car insurance firm will not pay out any claims.

    esure car insurance warning

Posted by officefileblog on January 5, 2008

Drivers who are planning to get behind a wheel outside the European Union (EU) should make sure they extend their cover, according to esure motor insurers.

Adrian Webb, head of corporate communications at esure, warned motorists that they would lose “all cover” once they travel outside the EU unless they make an arrangement with their insurance provider.

Those who do not heed this warning may risk driving illegally, he stated, adding that the provision of cover for non-EU destinations depends on where the driving is going to take place.

“The silliest thing you could ever do when taking your car abroad is to not speak with your insurer,” he remarked.

The British Insurance Brokers Association has recommended that motorists get their cars serviced before going abroad.

Founded in 1999, esure aims to offer competitive insurance cover by using the internet as its main sales channel.

Liverpool Victoria rebrand as LV – Success or Not?

Posted by officefileblog on December 4, 2007

    LV Car Insurance

Liverpool Victoria the UK’s biggest friendly society, has splashed out £2m in transforming itself into LV=. According to the company the redefined brand frontage “draws on our heritage and our new look aims to present us in a more modern and vibrant way”.

Having survived since 1843 on their name, Liverpool Victoria appear to have had an attack of expensive rebranding. “After listening to our members, customers and staff we decided that our brand name needed to evolve to make it more relevant for society today and for the future.”

According to the Daily Telegraph (which signalled its disapproval with the headline “160 years of tradition elbowed aside for LV=”), LV=’s big cheese Mike Rogers explained: “Although the existing identity had a great heritage, we only had 2pc spontaneous brand awareness. The new brand identity is a natural evolution of the Liverpool Victoria name.”

The big question of whether brand awareness will increase can only be answered over time. Obviously the simple (albeit expensive) rebranding exercise will need to be allied to other marketing and pricing initiatives.

Will consumers turn to LV= when their insurance policy is up for renewal? When the latest market share stats are published we’ll bring them to you first here!
